Visiting the Southwestern Museum

Map of our trip

The Dal in La-La Land and I were looking for a new place to visit. Sometimes, I just drive and hope to see something new. We drove downtown last weekend, and discussed going to the Brewery or the San Antonio Winery, and even drove passed these sites, but it was hot and we thought we'd try to find a shady spot instead. We jumped on the freeway and when we saw a sign for the Southwestern Museum, a light bulb went off. Ok, we'd been there before, but we didn't know Schuyler then and agreed that we'd walk the hills where Schuyler once lived. He gave me a black and white xerox a landscape from the area, which was to say,at the very least, unclear. However, Schuyler paints from memory and Buddy the Dal and I were taking my digital to the hills!

This is a photo I took of the hills we were walking up. I live in Highland Park and am familiar with it's hills, however, the hills behind the Southwestern are so fabulous! The folks who live there welcomed the Bud and I and their dogs peeked the Bud's interest...but we kept moving up, up and up. The Bud was sniffing and I was photographing the beautiful flora as we climbed.

$75 + 5 SH

11"x 14" white double thick matte included

Oil Painting measures 4.5" x 6.5"

$8 donated to a Dalmatian rescue of your choice.

I found this house and property interesting. I loved how it is tucked into the hill and the colours are so stunning. Adjacent, there is a luscious green lot with four colourful chairs. I wondered it they sat there at night and talked about how wonderful it is to live there. I think they do. The Bud agreed.

Acrylic painting "Four Colourful Chairs"

15" x 8" on Arches

$50 + 5 SH

$8 will be donated to an environmental group of your choice that assists in helping save animals.

The Bud was doing everything in his power this Sunday to avoid the camera. He's usually a ham, so I thought it best to capture his mood, especially because his pet mom, me, is also camera shy. He's an old guy, but still gorgeous even when he chooses to avoid fame.

8 " x 10" Pastel on Arches

12" x 16" double matte included. Top matte, black satin.

$125, FREE SHIPPING TO US, and $15 will be donated to a charity that assists homeless dogs, as the Bud was also rescued from the streets. He insists.

Photo of the Bud. He calls it, "Admiring Moi."

...having said all that, the Bud livens up in the car as usual. I love to see him smile from ear to ear... xoxo from me to the Bud, my old doggie...
(p.s. I'd love you even more if you stop pooping in the car.)

Acrylic on Arches 8" x 10" purple or blue fabric matte included.

$40 + $6 SH

$8 will be donated to Noah's Bark. The Bud LOVES the pups we've adopted from them.

Winter in Silverlake

I haven't painted our trip to Silverlake yet, but I wanted to share a few highlights with the Bud's friends.

Panting in December? Yes, the Bud and I walked around the reservoir in Silverlake and it was a bit toasty. It was truly a lovely day, and a lovely walk.

...and here is a fellow walker, presumably working on his tan.

Onlong the way, I saw this gorgeous flower in full bloom. As long as I've lived in CA, I'll never cease to appreciate the beautiful plants and flowers blooming all year round. The Bud, loves this weather too, especially as he is getting older and rickety.

The Bud and I are democrats and love this print by Shepard Fairey. The last I heard, he was having copyright issues and we wish him the best of luck in court. I feel he didn't violate the law, but copyright laws are complex. We'll wait to see what develops.

Along with the weather, the Bud and I are big fans of the architecture in CA. We especially love all the bright colors and color variety homeowners choose. Silverlake is very hilly and there are windy, narrow roads for walks, lined with amazing houses and gardens.

This is the Bud's butt. Ha Ha! He is happily trotting along, stopping to sniff and pee periodically.

Loving You...

...is easy cause your beautiful!
Too much cuddling and kissing between the Bud and Little Elf! But, it is Valentine's Day. Bud went from a violent street dog, to a dog that kisses all the dogs, big and small. LE is his favourite. She is sweet and feels like cotton.

Bud On The Duck - Grauman's Chinese Theatre

I painted this for the Dal in la la land series. www.dal-in-la-la-land-series.blogspot.com

As you know, the Dal, otherwise known as the Bud, and I travel around LA and take pictures as I sightsee and he pees on the sights. Once, he pooped while several young Asian girls asked to pet him in Chinatown. It was a proud moment for me.

We went to Grauman's on Hollywood Blvd. one Sunday and snuck on Donald Duck's footprint and signature for a photo. Shortly afterwards, we were booted off. "No dogs allowed!" I needed one more photo, so we snuck back on and when "spotted" we played dumb. It was only an usher, so the threat level was low. It was worth it and I was happy that the Bud didn't relieve himself on the Duck. The Bud just sat there...on the Duck.

Painting Size: 12" x 12"

SNIFFIN' THE FLOOR AT THE KODAK

"SNIFFIN" the floor at the Kodak Theatre - Dal in La-La Land #25

During his visit to Hollywood, the Dal stops to sniff the floors of the famous Kodak Theatre where many movie stars have also walked, hearts pounding with high hopes of leaving with an Oscar. Opened on Nov. 9, 2001, the Kodak hosts the Academy Awards Ceremonies and is also a retail, dining and entertainment complex.

Dogs actually do wander the halls, onleash...perhaps following the scent of Hollywood's hottest couple Brangelina? Tracking down wild man Jim Carrey? ...or could it be the dropped hot dog behind the flower pot that sits at the theatres entrance?
